As a photographer, you occasionally find yourself in nice places. But I think a photo shoot in Iceland is a kind of ultimate wish for every photographer. The land of fire and ice, of ocher yellow grass and ice blue glaciers. That rough, untouched nature, the incomparable landscape, the mountains, the cold. Smoking and bubbling landscapes that make you feel like you're on another planet. It has a magical appeal. I was ecstatic when Michelle and Koen approached me for this shoot. I immediately decided to make it a personal trip, and several months of planning and gathering information followed. It is impossible to see the entire island in a week, so I decided to focus on the southwest, because the distances between the various beautiful areas and sights are relatively small.
At the end of October I finally left, together with my lovely other half Carine (who is also a photographer), to Reykjavik. A breathtaking tour followed through the fascinating landscape. When you are so overwhelmed by what you see, the cold and rain no longer matter at all. We were overwhelmed by spewing geysers, impressive glaciers, endless canyons, pitch-black beaches and countless waterfalls, and at the end of the day we slept in a number of cozy log cabins that I had booked in advance on AirBnB. After a day in a natural thermal bath, a big wish came true due to a long journey inland. We were surprised with a spectacular display of the Northern Lights, after which we arrived at the B&B from where the photo shoot would take place. And what a pleasure it was to photograph Michelle and Koen! A beautiful couple. She in an antique wedding dress from Nama Nama and him in a vintage style suit. Truly the kind of couple that you don't need to give instructions. Because you can see that they are very fond of each other and despite the cold they were happy to keep each other warm. Respect for these tough guys, because they didn't complain for a moment. Even the biting wind left them cold. Maybe the Jägermeister I brought along helped a little. We traveled together through the beautiful Snaeffellsnes peninsula and visited the famous black church in Búðakirkja. The photo shoot ended at a shipyard with an abandoned ship just above Reykjavik. Very tired but very satisfied, we arrived late at night in our cozy log cabin, where it was storming heavily. What a wonderful day to enjoy. We quickly fell asleep to the sound of the wind and rain.
But in all honesty: Iceland cannot be described in words. So crawl under the covers, enjoy a cup of hot chocolate and join us on an adventure. Are you getting married abroad? Or have you always dreamed of a photo shoot at your favorite destination? Take Contact with me!
