There he stood. On top of the bridge at the intersection of Reguliersgracht and Prinsengracht. Olivier's nerves ran through his body. But he had a more than good reason.
Its gorgeous Julie was unsuspecting by boat on the way to him. He was about to ask her to marry him there, in this beautiful spot near the canals of Amsterdam.
We agreed that he would wait on the bridge and gesture for her to come to him.
There I stood. One bridge further, at the intersection of Reguliersgracht and Prinsengracht. Nerves ran through my body. But I had a more than good reason.
I had the task - if possible - to unobtrusively immortalize Olivier's proposal and hopefully Julie's yes. That is not easy with a large zoom lens on your camera.
But with the camera hidden under my coat, I could pretend to be a tourist in my own country. But it was so nice to have my own other half Carine to have at hand. Like me, she was standing concealed on the side of the bridge.
This way we could record the proposal and the reactions from both sides.
It all took a few minutes longer. The boat was a little later. Minutes like that seem like ages when your nerves get the better of you. But finally there was Julie. She immediately saw Olivier and came towards him.
A warm embrace followed, and soon the moment came: Olivier got down on his knees and asked his Julie to marry him. Julie's surprise was great. Her answer? A resounding 'yes!' Naturally!
After the proposal we walked around the canals for a short photo shoot. Because well, you don't want to keep such a newly engaged couple busy for too long.
The loving and engaged couple sailed for a romantic evening on the same boat. How beautiful this was and how enjoyable it was!
