Cold, rainy, windy, dark, bleak. Not exactly a list of qualities for the average ideal holiday destination. Yet Scotland has an attraction that you cannot ignore. The reasons why you shouldn't go to Scotland are part of the charm. Because it just suits Scotland. The rough, mystical landscape and the bleak weather match. The countless old castles and ruins stand out better in this moody setting. I like it. I have been able to make many trips to beautiful, sunny places, and for a change it is nice to look for the opposite. Just like Iceland (click here for the photos!) Scotland is also a country you should visit at least once. The nature is simply breathtaking, you won't get tired of the landscape. It is very understandable that films like Skyfall were incorporated into the Scottish landscape.
The reason I'm with my partner-in-crime Carine However, I went to Scotland for a week not because of the moving images, but precisely because of still images. We had the privilege of photographing a wedding at Cluny Castle. The photos will follow, I promise! But we didn't feel like flying all the way back and forth to Scotland for 1 or 2 days. So we decided to make it a short tour. The wedding took place nearby Aberdeen, and then we went for a short tour towards it Cairngorms National Park, Unpleasant Loch Lomond and finally a few days in Edinburgh. A good mix of mountains, valleys, winding roads, vast lakes and pleasant towns. No monsters to be seen, by the way, but that's besides the point.
Of course some pictures were taken here and there. But miraculously, I came home with less than 1000 photos taken. That is very little for a photographer. But sometimes it's just beautiful to be in the moment, taking in the fascinating surroundings without having to worry about capturing them all the time. Nevertheless, I would like to share some photos with you. I would like to take you on our tour of this beautiful part of the planet:
