There he was. On top of the bridge at the intersection of Reguliersgracht and Prinsengracht. Olivier’s nerves were racing through his body. But he had a more than good reason. His beautiful Julie was on his way to him by boat. He was about to propose to her there, in this beautiful spot near the canals of Amsterdam. We agreed that he would wait on the bridge and wave her to come to him.
There I was. One bridge further, at the intersection of Reguliersgracht and Prinsengracht. Were racing through my body. But I had more than good reason. I had the task of – if possible – to inconspicuously capture Olivier’s proposal and hopefully Julie’s ‘yes I do’.
That is not an easy feat with a large zoom lens on your camera. With the camera hidden under my coat, I could pretend to be a tourist in my own country. How happy I was to have my own other half Carine with me. Like me, she was hidden on the side of the bridge. This way we were able to capture the proposal and the emotions from two sides.
Everything was taking a few minutes longer. The boat was a little late. Minutes like that seem like ages when your nerves are playing tricks on you. But finally Jullie arrived. She immediately saw Olivier and came over to him.
A warm embrace followed, and soon the moment was there: Olivier got on his knees and proposed to his Julie. Julie’s was pleasantly shocked and surprised. Her answer? A resounding ‘yes!’ of course!
After the proposal we walked around the canals for a short photo shoot. Because, well, you don’t want to keep such a newly engaged couple busy for too long.
The couple in love sailed away, with a romantic evening ahead of them.
Such a beautiful evening!
