The Photographer

First of all, I welcome you to my website and I really appreciate you reading this page to get to know me a bit better. I hope you are doing well!

Let me introduce myself. My name is Ruud Claessen. Roughly 25 years ago, when I was in primary school, there were 3 young lads with the same first name. There was Ruud B., Ruud P., and then there was me. Every time the class had a test or an assignment, we had to add the first letter of our surnames to avoid confusion with the teacher. Hence the name ‘ruudC’.

I was born in the summer of ’82 in a small village near Roermond, the Netherlands. About 11 years ago, I moved to the ‘big city’ of Roermond. Around that same time, I got seriously infected with the photography virus. I bought my first (2 megapixel!) digital camera at a local pharmacy, along with a 64 MegaBytes (not Gigabytes!) memory card, the biggest one at the time.

Things rapidly went out of hand…

I little less than a year later, I bought my first DSLR camera, and photography became a serious hobby of mine. At that time, I mostly shot abstract work, but after a while I also started doing portraits, mostly of friends and colleagues. In 2007 I shot my first wedding, my uncle’s.

A little flash forward: It’s 2015 and I’ve shot over 175 weddings and done hundreds of other assignments. But even after 7 years of being a professional photographer, I still get excited when hearing and feeling the click. When I get home after a wedding, it feels like Christmas when I’m copying all of those beautiful memories to my computer.

In the beginning of 2014, I started doing analog photography as well. I absolutely love the character of these photographs. Whenever I’m sending my film to the lab, it makes me feel like a young boy again. I wait impatiently for my scans to arrive, just like I waited for my holiday snaps many years ago.

There’s few things I love more than working with people and capturing them in the best way possible. To eternalize all those funny and emotional moments. Creating memories that you’ll never forget in your life. That is why being a photographer is the ideal profession for me.

Besides being a photographer, I’m also a person like everyone else. Long before photography became a hobby, I was a guitarist. Even though my guitars don’t get used as often as they used to, music is still a huge passion of mine. Besides music, I enjoy the finer things in life. Good food, traveling, culture, and a decent Cuban cigar every now and then. I love cooking and I’m crazy about my pets (2 cats and a dog). Also, whenever my schedule allows it, I can really enjoy doing absolutely nothing.

That me in a nutshell. Want to know more? Feel free to drop me a line at or fill out the contact form. If you prefer more personal contact, I’ll happily invite you to a Skype chat.
